Conference ReportThe Business School was the proud host of a highly successful Project Management conference involving delegates from across the world. Excellence in the Teaching and Learning of Project Management, directed by Senior Lecturer Dr Roger Atkinson, followed two previously successful conferences in 2003 and 2005. This year, the international aspect was apparent as delegates benefited from having speakers from across the globe, including France, Canada, America, Australia, Switzerland, Sweden, Croatia and of course, England. Key note speaker, Dr Mark Winter from Manchester University was lead researcher for the latest EPSRC funded research, Rethinking Project Management. Following the conference dinner, delegates enjoyed an interesting insight into the work of the National Air Traffic Services (NATS) by Alistair Godbold. Both Miles Shepherd (Vice President of the Association of Project Management) and Professor Francis Hartman from Calgary University chaired the Thursday and Friday presentations respectively. Conference papers were peer reviewed and will appear in a special edition of the International Journal of Project Management. The UK Association for Project Management rated the conference as the highest level for continual professional development (CPD) while the American Project Management Institute Global Accreditation Centre was the key sponsor. Feedback from conference delegates was highly positive, ‘It was really a pleasure to be at your conference. So motivating, so friendly, so many interesting people,’ said one delegate. ‘Thank you for all the hard work you put into making the conference such a resounding success.’ Further success for BU in the field of project management follows the announcement of the award of a grant to establish a national network for those interested in excellence in the teaching and learning for project management. The presentations from the 2007 conference will be made available as soon as possible, including a video stream of the presentations. For further details of the papers, the new PM network or any aspect relating to the teaching and learning for project management, please contact Dr Roger Atkinson the conference Director, at rogeratkinson@bournemouth.ac.uk This event is now closed. Attracting the highest CPD points rating from the UK Association for Project Management (APM) , and supported by Project Management Institute and the Global Accreditation Center for Project Management (GAC) and the Business Management Accountancy and Finance (BMAF), this conference is aimed at those who are interested in identifying and providing excellence in the teaching and learning of project management. The keynote speaker, Dr Mark Winter from Manchester University, was the leader and principal investigator for the Rethinking Project Management, a UK EPSRC 2004-2006 Government-funded research network. The event will be chaired by Miles Shepherd, Vice President of the Association for Project Management and a Visiting Fellow in Project Management here at the Business School. Additionally, speakers from several countries will present papers about their research and practical experience. The conference dinner will be held on the evening of 13 September.
